Music can really lift our spirits.

Sometimes it’s the beat, or the lyrics, or the associated memories.  Or a combination of all three.

These days many of us are busting moves in the kitchen/living room.

Or the zoo. 😉

What are you dancing or listening to these days?

All genres welcome because this is an opportunity to introduce ourselves to new music.

If we get enough recommendations here, I will create a play list on Spotify and post it for all to enjoy.

I’ll start the party with a couple:

Your turn to offer suggests in the comments box below!  Let’s expand our playlists!

Hello from Brooklyn Law School. Our community is being hit hard by the pandemic. One of the things that makes New York unique is Broadway, where all the theaters are currently shuttered. So I’m listening to lots of Broadway show tunes right now. Here’s one that I wanted to share.

FOR NOW is a song from the 2004 Tony-winning Best Musical, Avenue Q (it beat WICKED!). The score and book also won Tony Awards. The story is, in part, a send-up of Sesame Street and follows a bunch of characters who all live on Avenue Q and who, each in his/her/their own way, is simply trying to navigate life. FOR NOW is the final song of the show and it distills some of the lessons that the characters have learned along the way.

This particular performance is by the original Broadway cast and was aired as part of that year’s Muscular Dystrophy telethon. For that reason, they altered one of the lines in the song to “M.D. is only for now.” The original lyric was “George Bush is only for now.” In the most recent performance I saw it had been altered again to “Trump is only for now.” That’s an encouraging thought.

I hope you like the message.
